Recreational Gray Triggerfish Season Opens Aug. 1 in Gulf Waters

July 30, 2025 – Anglers, get your gear ready, the 2025 recreational season for gray triggerfish in both state and federal Gulf waters opens Thursday, Aug. 1, and runs through the end of the year. The season is scheduled to close on Jan. 1, 2026.

As part of Florida’s ongoing efforts to manage reef fish populations, anglers targeting gray triggerfish, or any reef fish species, from private recreational vessels in Gulf waters must enroll in the State Reef Fish Angler Designation. Participants may be selected to complete a mail survey that contributes to the State Reef Fish Survey, a critical tool in improving recreational fishing data and ensuring sustainable harvests.

To learn more about the designation or the State Reef Fish Survey, visit MyFWC.com/SRFS. For current recreational gray triggerfish regulations, head to MyFWC.com/Marine and select “Recreational Regulations” followed by “Triggerfish.”
