Sarasota County Offers Free Sandbag Pickup Aug. 10, Sept. 14

Sarasota County will offer free, voluntary, self-service sandbag stations Sunday, August 10, to help residents prepare for potential tropical weather during hurricane season. A second distribution date is set for Sunday, September 14.

Empty bags and sand will be available at no cost from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days at three locations:

  • Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St., Sarasota
  • Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota
  • South County Fleet, 4571 State Road 776/Englewood Road, Venice

The early distribution program supplements the county’s storm-response sandbag operations, which are typically activated ahead of an approaching storm, giving residents more time to prepare.

Participants will need to fill and load their own sandbags. Residents are encouraged to bring shovels and gloves, though a limited number of shovels will be available on-site. Each vehicle will receive 10 empty sandbags to fill.

County officials urge residents to take advantage of these free resources to help safeguard homes from flooding and other storm-related impacts.
