Students, Veterans and Community Gather for Englewood Elementary Veterans Day Ceremony

ENGLEWOOD – Englewood Elementary School held its annual Veterans Day program on November 11, 2025, drawing a large crowd of students, families, veterans and community members.

The morning began with Fire Captains Derek Kemerer and Brent Florea of the Englewood Area Fire Control District raising the American flag as the school Chorous sang the national anthem. The VFW participated by posting the colors during the main ceremony.

Guest speaker Lt. Col. Dan Donarski addressed the crowd, sharing what it means to serve the nation and reading the oath taken by all service members. “It’s all about service — to family, community and country,” Donarski said. “My advice to the students is service! And no matter their age, make your bed -first thing in the morning. Now you’ve accomplished the first task. Clear your plates, as your mother shouldn’t have to. And clean your darn room! All without being told to.”

He encouraged students to be good citizens by volunteering, helping others and taking responsibility for their own actions.

Music teacher Ms. Kerr, who organized the event, led each grade in patriotic songs following Donarski’s remarks. Principal Eric Idoyaga thanked attendees before Ms. Kerr asked for a moment of silence to conclude the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, families and guests viewed student artwork displayed along the school track and admired the “Wall of Heroes,” created by art teacher Mrs. Baggett. The display featured patriotic artwork from every grade and tributes to EES staff and students’ family members who have served in the military.

“It was a beautiful morning honoring our veterans,” the school shared on social media.. “We are so proud of our Englewood family for coming together to honor those who serve.”
