Women’s Equality Day Breakfast Highlights Ongoing Fight for Gender Equity

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Women’s Resource Center will mark Women’s Equality Day on Tuesday, August 26, with a community breakfast and panel discussion focused on the progress and continued challenges facing women in the United States.

Co-hosted by the Leagues of Women Voters of Sarasota and Manatee counties, the event takes place from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Women’s Resource Center’s Sarasota location, 340 S. Tuttle Ave. The free breakfast includes a moderated conversation with guest panelists addressing key equity issues such as the gender wage gap, voter access, childcare affordability, reproductive rights, and women’s representation in leadership.

Panelists include representatives from the League of Women Voters, FUNducation executive director Neirda Thompson-Pemberton, and Through Women’s Eyes president E. Scott Osborne. The event will be recorded for broadcast on METV’s local network. Registration is required at www.mywrc.org/equalityday.

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted many women the right to vote. It serves as a reminder of past achievements and ongoing work for equity.

The U.S. currently ranks 43rd globally in gender equity, according to the 2024 Global Gender Gap Report. Tuesday’s gathering aims to foster meaningful dialogue across generations and perspectives on the path toward full equality.
