SARASOTA — Dr. Edward Rosenthal will discuss the challenges of growing vegetables in space during a Community Library Speaker Series program on December 3 at Selby Library. The event, hosted by the Sarasota Sister Cities Association, begins at 5:00 PM and is free and open to the public.
Rosenthal, an American polymer chemist, biologist and entrepreneur, holds an honorary doctorate of science and technology. He has collaborated with NASA on space plant biology and worked with the Veggie team to develop controlled-release fertilizer technologies for astronauts tending fresh produce aboard space missions.
The presentation, titled “NASA Space Plant Biology and Artemis Mission,” will cover why fresh food matters for long-duration flights and how Rosenthal’s SNR fertilizer is used in both Earth-based agriculture and space-based food systems. Guests are invited to continue the evening with dinner at Café Amici at 6:15 PM at 1371 Main Street in Sarasota.
