Sarasota County Opens New History Center, Expands Fruitville Library

SARASOTA, Fla. — Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources has launched a new History Center to give residents and visitors greater access to the region’s archival collections. The facility houses a range of historical materials, including photographs, maps, personal records, and audiovisual content, all stored under museum-grade environmental conditions.

The History Center also features a do-it-yourself digitization lab for public use, community meeting rooms, and a gallery for local history exhibits. The facility is intended to serve researchers, genealogists, educators, and community members with an interest in Sarasota County’s historical development.

As part of the broader initiative, the Fruitville Library is undergoing expansion. Renovations will include the addition of a makerspace, a teen-dedicated area, and multiple new meeting rooms.

“As a librarian, it is rewarding to see our Fruitville Library integrated into this project,” said Dr. Renee DiPilato, director of Libraries and Historical Resources. A recording of the launch event is available at: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19KViYinP9/
