Charlotte County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in Room 119 of the Charlotte County Administration Center, 18500 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte.
They will be considering a resolution about the future of the county’s Environmentally Sensitive Lands Program. This resolution calls for a referendum on extending the current 0.20 mill ad valorem tax for another 20 years and approving a bond issue of up to $70 million, backed by revenue from that tax. In short, the resolution lays out steps for continuing the tax, authorizing bonds, and setting the stage for the required referendum, including election details, ballot questions, and responsibilities for officials.
All who care about this issue are invited to come to the meeting and share your views. If you, or any agency, plan to challenge a board decision made at the meeting, you’ll need a record of what happened. Therefore, ensure the creation of a verbatim record of the proceedings, including testimony and any evidence, as you will require it for an appeal.
