Fort De Soto Park is a place we visited years ago to see the fort but forgot about until last week. We kept hearing about the camping and kayaking opportunities there and decided to check it out. Many reviews we read regarded this as their favorite spot after camping and kayaking all around the area.
Wellen Park: A few days ago, we finally got around to checking out Wellen Park, located west of River Road, off US 41. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found. After years of driving around and through the construction on US 41 we turned into the main entrance and found “downtown” Wellen Park.
Oscar Scherer State Park: We reserved the coldest days of this fall so far to camp and fish somewhere local that we could go to without a lot of driving. Oscar Scherer State Park was a good choice. While most camping spots are full of visitors from the north all winter, this small park is often overlooked by the RV crowd.
We like to keep our advice on the positive side of the discussion. That being said, here are a few thoughts we wanted to share with beginners when they start kayak angling.
Looking for new launches and those that are new to us leads us to spots we haven’t visited for a while. This is especially true of those launches affected by Hurricane Ian. In spite of this summer’s extreme heat, our need to be on the water paddling a kayak and catching quality fish has not waned.
