After the loss of her son Spencer, Dawn Stephens found comfort in a Wind Phone in Safety Harbor. The experience led her and her family to bring a similar space to Englewood. The Wind Phone is now open to the public at the Englewood Art Center, located at 350 S. McCall Road. Visitors are welcome to use the phone on birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, or any time they wish to speak with someone they’ve loved and lost.
The project was created by Spencer’s family — Dawn, Donnie, and Juliannah Stephens — and is maintained by their nonprofit, Spread Spencer’s Sparkle.Support for the project came from the Englewood Art Center and Ringling College of Art and Design, along with Kreg Maheu, Jim Scott, Luke Tannehill, and Mark Jones. To learn more, go to MyWindPhone.com.To donate, please visit www.spreadspencerssparkle.com.
