Reid’s Health Foods marks 50 years of wellness focus in Englewood

A longtime local fixture dedicated to natural health and personalized care is celebrating a major milestone as Reid’s Health Foods marks five decades of serving the community.

Located at 1833 Englewood Road in Lemon Bay Plaza, Reid’s Health Foods was founded in 1976 by Harold and Lee Reid and has remained family-operated ever since. Now run by sisters Kim and Tony, the store has built its reputation on offering supplements, herbs, vitamins and holistic guidance tailored to individual needs.

Reid’s Health Foods also offers a wide range of products beyond supplements, including local honey, bulk spices, health foods and drinks, and personal hygiene items, creating a one-stop shop for customers seeking natural alternatives in their daily routines.

Kim, who has spent much of her life in the industry, said the business is driven by a desire to help others improve their health naturally. Rather than replacing medical care, she emphasizes supporting the body through nutrition, preventative practices and education. Services such as supplement guidance, blood typing and monthly live blood cell analysis provide customers with additional insight into their overall wellness.

“We’re like a support system,” she said. “We help people understand there are other ways to take care of their bodies.”

That philosophy extends to The Root Café, the store’s in-house smoothie bar, which offers nutrient-rich drinks designed to complement a healthy lifestyle. Popular menu items include fruit-based blends and specialty options like the “Chocolate Root,” alongside lighter choices such as the “Strawberry Sunrise.”

After closing for more than a year following Hurricane Ian, Reid’s Health Food has since reopened, continuing its legacy with a loyal customer base that Kim describes as “more like family.”

With nearly 50 years behind it, the business remains rooted in its original mission: helping people feel better through informed, natural choices.
