On the afternoon of August 22, 2026, a home on Knight Island (also known as Palm Island), just off Kettle Harbor Drive, went up in flames. Smoke rose over the water.
The only way to get fire crews and trucks to the location of the fire was by barge. Firefighters from Charlotte County and the Englewood Area Fire Control District loaded their gear, crossed the water, and got right to work.
They received the call at 1:04 p.m. By the time they arrived, the fire had already spread through the entire house. Neighbors said it started with a golf cart charger sparking beneath the home, but officials haven’t confirmed that detail yet. We’re still waiting for the official report before drawing conclusions about the cause.
Two people at the scene refused to go to the hospital, and thankfully, there haven’t been other injuries.
The situation is still unfolding. Fire crews remain on Knight Island, and we’ll share more updates as the details come in.
