Watering restrictions aren’t going anywhere in parts of Southwest Florida until at least March 2027. The Southwest Florida Water Management District just extended these rules again, thanks to an ongoing rain shortfall, over 15 inches less than last year. That has left Sarasota and neighboring counties facing what officials call an “extreme” water shortage.
With local rivers, lakes, and public water supplies running lower than usual after two disappointing rainy seasons, the district says the restrictions are necessary. So residents, even those with private wells, can water their lawns just one day a week, and only for four hours either before or after midnight. If you’ve got a property an acre or larger, you can spread watering across both time windows.
These rules apply in Sarasota, DeSoto, Hardee, and Manatee counties, plus parts of Charlotte and Highlands counties. The authorities will maintain the squeeze at least through the end of March.
