North Port’s Healthcare Boom: AdventHealth Expansion Sets the Stage for Massive 5-Story Hospital

AdventHealth Expansion

North Port is on the verge of a big change in healthcare. AdventHealth plans to build a five-story, 240-bed hospital, but the process starts with a standalone emergency room, 24 beds, ready to serve the city’s growing population of 100,000. Last year, they broke ground for North Port’s first full-service hospital. Now, AdventHealth wants to bring even more medical care to the area.

City officials are reviewing AdventHealth’s proposal, which details a 16,235-square-foot emergency room, complete with parking, stormwater systems, utility updates, and off-site improvements. The site covers about 17.6 acres, tucked north of Tamiami Trail, east of South Salford Boulevard, west of South Cranberry Boulevard, and south of CocoPlum Waterway. Property owners have already received notices, and nearby residents heard more during a virtual neighborhood meeting in October.

The plan lays out three phases. Phase one is this emergency room. No opening date yet. Phase two would add a five-story hospital with 120 inpatient beds and a huge medical office building, about 60,000 square feet. In the final phase, AdventHealth could double the hospital capacity to 240 beds and build a parking garage.

Currently, everything’s still under review. The emergency room comes first, and there’s no official timeline for completion.

North Port’s not alone in its healthcare growth. Sarasota Memorial Hospital is putting up a nine-story, $507 million campus near I-75 on Sumter Boulevard. Construction kicked off in late 2025, and the hospital aims to open in fall 2028 with 100 beds, eventually expandable beyond 400.

Veterans in Port Charlotte will see improvements, too. A new VA clinic, 28,441 square feet, is rising off Price Boulevard, soon to replace the current location and offer modern outpatient care.

North Port and the surrounding region are getting ready for a major upgrade in medical services, more beds, more facilities, and expanded care for everyone.
