Ivy’s on Dearborn will close its doors at 7pm on Tuesday, August 26, marking the end of a chapter in Englewood’s retail scene. Owner Karen Tyree, who opened the shop in honor of her late mother, Ivy, said she wanted to end on a high note, preserving the store’s legacy as a vibrant part of the community.
Tyree’s journey began in 2008 after returning from England following her mother’s passing. Inspired by Ivy’s love for bargain hunting, she opened her first shop, Ivy’s Attic and later moved to Dearborn Street in 2013, when the historic district was struggling with limited foot traffic. Over time, she helped foster its revival, hosting monthly “sip and shop” events, fashion shows, private benefits, and fundraisers for local charities.
A longtime interior designer and community advocate, Tyree balanced running the boutique with ongoing philanthropic efforts, supporting numerous nonprofits and spearheading creative events that drew both locals and visitors. She credits Englewood’s close-knit spirit for sustaining her through challenges, including major storms, the pandemic, and economic downturns.
While the storefront will close, Ivy’s will continue online, and Tyree plans to focus on her health, home, and time with family in England. The boutique’s farewell coincides with Discover Dearborn on August 26, when the shop will host a closing party from 5 to 7pm. A storewide sale of 50% off is underway until closing day.
For Tyree, the decision is about gratitude—leaving the community with fond memories of a shop that bore her mother’s name and reflected her vision for connection, style, and giving back.
