DeSantis Appoints Tony Smith to Charlotte County School Board as Kim Amontree Runs for County Commissioner

According to a press release dated July 31, 2026, Governor DeSantis officially announced Tony Smith as the new District 2 representative on the Charlotte County School Board. 

According to the press release: “We’re excited to have Mr. Smith join us, and we’re ready to work together to keep pushing our mission forward—educating, inspiring, and supporting every student so our community grows stronger.”

“We also want to take a moment to thank Kim Amontree for her decade of service on the School Board. She’s been an outspoken advocate for students and a dependable partner for our schools. Beyond that, she’s offered her voice and her energy to help shape Charlotte County’s future. Her leadership has left a mark, and we’re grateful for her commitment.”

Kim Amontree recently stepped down from her District 2 seat to run for the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners in District 4. 

Mr. Smith is a Partner and Vice President at Ashley, Brown & Smith, CPA’s, P.A. He’s kept busy in the community too, serving as Treasurer for the Florida International Air Show, and he sits on the AdventHealth Southwest Florida Foundation Board and the Independent Referendum Oversight and Budget Advisory Committee. Smith brings the experience of a U.S. Navy veteran, and he holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting from Florida Gulf Coast University.
