You don’t have to leave town to learn how Florida’s ecosystems can survive and recover from extreme weather; just head to Punta Gorda this September. The 2026 Southwest Florida Resiliency Summit brings together a lineup of experts from business, academia, and government to share ideas and practical advice on helping nature cope with the growing challenges of climate change. It all happens Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center. Things kick off at 8:30 a.m., and there’s no cost to attend.
The summit will delve into key questions: How will rising ocean temperatures, stronger storms, and shifting sea levels shape our region’s future? What gives ecosystems like wetlands, rivers, and places as iconic as the Everglades the ability to recover after a disturbance? That’s what scientists call “resiliency,” nature’s knack for bouncing back after hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, or even human developments.
But the conversation doesn’t stop at how nature heals. Organizers won’t shy away from tough scenarios, like what happens when an ecosystem stops bouncing back altogether. Through a series of classes, speakers plan to tackle the warning signs and consequences when a system breaks down and stays that way.
