If you monitor the Bald Eagle Cam, you’ve probably heard the buzz: M15, the famous Southwest Florida bald eagle, is shaking things up.
Observers have seen him scouting a potential alternate nest with a new mate accompanying him. They still visit their usual office oak tree, so they have abandoned nothing. Eagle pairs often dip their talons in multiple locations during courtship, and watchers know that’s part of the dance during mating season.
Right now, M15 and the female sometimes venture to a second potential nest, but they keep returning to the familiar home base. Lady Hawk’s October 6 video even shows M15 doing his usual rounds: hauling prey, grabbing a drink at the pond, fussing with moss, and spending plenty of time in the main nest tree. Her notes confirm the couple hasn’t settled on a final location yet.
This is classic bald eagle behavior. Testing out new sites doesn’t mean they’ll ditch the old one, or that eggs will land in the new spot. Last time, when M15 was with Harriet, they checked out spots in the West pasture but ultimately stayed put. Eagle pairs sometimes keep alternate nests as a backup, unfinished and all.
With the 2026–2027 nesting season kicking off just a few days ago, curiosity is running high. Observers have noticed both eagles moving between the office oak and the mysterious second spot.
And while eagle fans everywhere would love to know the new nest’s exact location, wildlife monitors won’t share those coordinates. It keeps the pair safe during this delicate early part of their courtship. For now, all eyes stay on M15 and the big question: Where will they finally settle down when nesting time truly begins?
